Why go
A road transfer from Mestia reaches the starting bridge for the Chalaadi valley walk. Beyond it, the trail follows the river into a rougher mountain setting; Georgia Travel estimates four to six hours for the outing, excluding the transfer. Leave enough daylight for an unhurried return.
The glacier is a landmark to view from a safe distance, not a destination to touch. Georgia Travel warns that the ice is melting and rocks fall from it. Do not approach the glacier tongue or continue into a rockfall area for a photograph; turn back if conditions or local advice make the route unsafe.
