Why go
Above Stepantsminda, Gergeti Trinity Church holds its place against Mount Kazbek and the surrounding high slopes. It is a 14th-century church, but its setting is as much a part of the visit as the building itself: clouds can cover the mountain and lift again within the same outing.
Make time to walk around the church grounds and take in the valley before heading back down. This is an active religious site, not only a viewpoint, so keep the visit considerate and follow any guidance at the entrance.
