Why go
The viewpoint north of Gudauri opens onto a steep Caucasus valley. Its curved monument and mosaics date from the Soviet period; the name often translated as the Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument belongs to the politics of its creation, not a simple account of the relationship today.
Come for the scale of the landscape and allow a little time to look at the monument in context. This is a short stop on a mountain road rather than a walk from the resort. A clear view is never worth a hazardous roadside stop or stepping beyond the protected viewing area.

Check road and weather conditions before setting out. Stop only where access and parking are safe, remain within the established viewing area and be prepared to skip it in poor visibility.
