The seventeenth-century Machabeli Tower is one of the few visible remains of the residence of the Imeretian kings. It gives Ambrolauri an in-town historic stop beyond its art museum.
Look at the tower and nearby church from permitted public areas. Do not assume that the interior is open or safe to enter.
