Why go
Samtavro is another component of Mtskheta's UNESCO World Heritage property. Its main church dates from the eleventh century, and the complex is closely associated with Saint Nino and the first Christian royal family of Georgia.
The grounds and church invite a quieter visit than a quick landmark stop. Respect the nuns' working space and any areas closed to visitors; the monastery is an active religious community, not a museum.
