Why go
Truso rewards a slow day on foot. The wide valley combines mineral springs, rust-coloured travertine and traces of former settlements; the landscape feels very different from the church ridge at Gergeti or the Chaukhi approach from Juta.
Plan this as a separate outing rather than an add-on. Access conditions can change, and the valley's border-zone rules matter if you continue beyond Zakagori. The travertine is fragile, so admire its colour from the path rather than walking over it.
Before you go
Check road and trail access before going. Carry ID if you intend to continue into the border-zone area beyond Zakagori Fortress, and do not walk on the fragile travertine.
