Why go
Uplistsikhe is an ancient settlement cut into sandstone above the Mtkvari Valley. Streets, chambers and public spaces reveal how the site developed over many centuries, a different scale of history from Gori's medieval fortress.
Give the open-air site enough time to explore the permitted areas without rushing between caves. The rock can be steep and slippery, and shade is limited; choose your route to the conditions and do not enter closed spaces.
