Why go
Agara was a medieval religious centre whose main basilica is among the largest of its type in Georgia. The remaining churches, refectory and tower show the former scale of the complex.
The site is partly ruined and set above the valley. Use local directions and avoid unstable buildings or the nearby cliff edge.
