Why visit
Katskhi Pillar rises abruptly from the landscape near Chiatura, with a small religious complex on top. The view from below makes its unusual setting clear without turning a sacred site into a climbing challenge.

Plan this as a separate outing rather than a quick walk from town. Public visitors are not permitted to climb the pillar, so the experience is the ground-level view and the surrounding setting; keep to open visitor areas and respect any active religious use.
Come for the ground-level view
This is not an activity where arriving early or booking a tour unlocks a climb. The public visit is about seeing the limestone column, church and landscape from below. A telephoto lens can reveal architectural detail without crossing barriers or disturbing the religious community.
Combine it with Chiatura carefully
Katskhi is a separate road outing from Chiatura, while Mghvimevi Monastery lies closer to the town. They can form a wider heritage day only when transport and daylight are settled in advance. Otherwise, choose the pillar or spend the extra time understanding Chiatura's valley and cable-car history.
