Narikala has guarded Tbilisi's ridge for centuries. From the public approaches, the walls frame views over the old districts and the Mtkvari valley.
What to expect
Access to sections of the fortification can change during works. Stay on open paths and treat the cable car as a separate service to check on the day.
Choose the ascent and descent separately
The cable car, walking routes and road approaches create different visits, and none should be assumed to operate unchanged. Check the fortress and cable-car status first, then decide how you will come down. A one-way ride can still work when you have a comfortable, open walking route planned.
Link it to Old Tbilisi
Narikala fits naturally with Abanotubani, Metekhi and the old-town streets below. The botanical garden uses a nearby hillside entrance but deserves its own time. Avoid turning the ridge into a race between viewpoints; the useful reward is understanding how the river, baths and historic districts fit together.
