Petra occupied a strategic rocky height above the Black Sea. Its surviving walls and foundations recall a sixth-century fortified city contested along this coast, and the sea view explains the setting better than a map alone.
Give the site its own outing from Kobuleti. These are open-air ruins on uneven ground, not an indoor museum with a fixed route; allow time to look from safe paths and check current visitor access before travelling.
