Why go
Bagrati Cathedral stands on Ukimerioni Hill above the Rioni. Built at the turn of the 11th century under Bagrat III, it is one of Kutaisi's defining landmarks and a place to understand the city from above as well as through its streets.
The building has undergone major modern reconstruction, so it should not be presented as an untouched medieval interior. Give yourself time for the approach, the exterior and the view, then decide how much of the active church is open to explore respectfully on the day.

Allow for a climb or arrange transport to the hill. Check current church access, dress respectfully and do not assume all interior areas are open to visitors.
