Why go
Bakuriani sits among the forests of the Trialeti Range, above the Borjomi valley. Choose it for several days in a mountain resort where your accommodation and chosen ski area shape the stay: Didveli, Kokhta and Mitarbi have separate access points, so the town name alone says little about your daily journey. Outside the ski season, a confirmed passenger-lift ride and a visit to the alpine botanical garden offer a gentler pace. Tabatskuri Lake is a different undertaking beyond Tskhratskaro Pass, requiring its own transport and road check. Allow two to four days for the outings that fit your season; the skiing and warm-weather ideas are alternatives, not a year-round checklist.
When to go
December to March is the usual ski-planning window, subject to snow and actual opening dates. In summer, confirm the passenger lifts and garden access for your date. Tabatskuri via Tskhratskaro Pass needs a separate road-condition check even in warmer months. Spring and autumn can fall between lift seasons.
Getting there
Travel by car, arranged transfer or minibus from Tbilisi, with the mountain approach through the Borjomi area. Use roughly 3–4 hours as an initial road-transfer allowance from Tbilisi, with more time for snow, holiday traffic and your exact address; the tourism board's indicative 2-hour-25-minute road figure is not a winter guarantee. Confirm minibus departures and onward lift transfers locally. Plan arrival by road rather than relying on historic Kukushka railway timetables. Tbilisi Airport is the flight gateway, not an airport in Bakuriani.
The trade-off
The resort can be busy during winter holidays, and short distances can take longer in snow and traffic. Non-skiers need confirmed alternatives when lifts close. A Tabatskuri outing is a separate mountain-road day, while Borjomi's town park and national-park trails require a journey down the valley.
