Tbilisi after dark.

Walk Sololaki before dusk, settle into the old-town bar streets, hear a live set or build a night around Tbilisi's electronic scene. Rustaveli's opera and ballet stage offers a seated evening; Chughureti's streets and artist-run spaces draw you across the river. Choose one part of the city and one main experience, with time to enjoy both.

Choose and plan

Choose your kind of evening.

Choose the music, neighbourhood or performance that draws you in, then build the evening around it. The old-town lanes, Rustaveli's theatres and the club spaces farther along the river offer different nights. Allowances below help shape a plan; the dated programme sets an event's actual start and finish.

Choose an area before choosing a bar.

Old Tbilisi suits an evening woven into sightseeing. Shardeni Street and the lanes near Sioni concentrate bars and restaurants close to the old-town landmarks. Walk through first and choose a room whose sound and seating suit you. For a wine evening with an architecture walk, use Sololaki and Freedom Square as your focus: see the façades before dusk, then settle at one table.

Across the Mtkvari, Chughureti offers another starting point. Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue combines restored streets, restaurants and cafés; nearby Ninoshvili Street adds contemporary cocktail bars. Choose this side when you want dinner and a drink within the neighbourhood. Going back and forth to the old town adds river crossings and travel to an otherwise simple evening.

Rustaveli makes sense when an opera or ballet ticket anchors the night. Keep dinner near the theatre and leave time to find your entrance. In a wine bar, ask which bottles are open by the glass and try an amber wine if the style interests you; our wine theme explains skin contact and grapes. For a full meal, choose from the food menu rather than assuming every bar has a kitchen.

Club culture, local artists and the dancefloor.

Tbilisi's electronic scene grew through local DJs and communities that made room for experimentation, freedom and equality. Bassiani, founded in 2014 at the Dinamo stadium complex, and KHIDI, opened in 2016 beneath Vakhushti Bagrationi Bridge, are landmarks in that story. A resident DJ or local label night can be as revealing as a visiting headliner. Listen to the listed artists before choosing your event.

Bassiani's published app-ticketing terms specify verified buyers, an 18+ door policy and one online ticket per verified person. For that ticket route, entry requires the QR code and an original valid ID or passport; a scan or photocopy is not accepted. Start verification before the night you hope to attend, and read the current event conditions before paying. These requirements belong to Bassiani's published ticket process, rather than a rule for every Tbilisi club.

KHIDI publishes dated upcoming nights. Its ticket terms say digital tickets arrive by email and are available in the account's My Tickets area; save yours before leaving. At Left Bank, the published rules require age 18+, ID on request and agreement to an entry search. Inside its club, photography is prohibited, phone cameras must be covered and phones stay off the dancefloor. Respect the individual venue's rules and give other dancers space; ask staff for help if someone is being harassed.

Hear a live set, or build a visit around jazz.

Left Bank, at 10 Dodo Abashidze Street, connects the electronic scene with live performance. Its artist-run community space programmes live shows as well as club nights. Look for the actual performance listing: a live set and a DJ event can use the same venue but give you quite different evenings. Check whether the show is seated or standing and when the first act begins.

For jazz, start with Eastern Promotions, the organiser behind Tbilisi Jazz Festival. Its calendar also covers events elsewhere in Georgia, so check the city and hall as well as the artist. A festival or touring concert can become the reason to choose a particular evening in Tbilisi; it should not be treated as something running every week. Leave room for support acts and a conversation after the set.

Rustaveli's stage, or an intimate old-town theatre.

The Opera and Ballet Theatre on Rustaveli Avenue gives an evening a clear centre. Its repertoire includes Georgian operas alongside international works: compare the dated playbill with the production description, then choose voices and orchestra or ballet. Check language and surtitles when booking opera. The repertoire page alone does not establish a performance on your travel date.

Gabriadze's small marionette theatre on Shavteli Street offers a more intimate old-town evening. Book a production for its story and visual world, checking the presentation language and running time. Seeing the clock tower outside is a separate experience. For either theatre, have dinner beforehand if you want an unhurried meal, and arrive with the ticket accessible before the stated start.

See the architecture before dusk, then the city lights.

Begin a Sololaki walk at Freedom Square while daylight still picks out the balconies, doors and decorative stonework. Choose a few public streets, then return toward the square for food or coffee. The slopes make a short wander more satisfying than an ambitious late circuit, and private stairwells and courtyards remain residents' spaces.

For a wider view, give Mtatsminda its own outing and reach the hilltop before sunset. Let the changing light be the reason to linger. Confirm park access and the funicular's return service for your date, allowing travel time separately from time at the view. A wet or windy evening is better suited to an indoor plan.

Three evenings that fit the city.

A quieter first evening: allow about an hour in Sololaki before dusk, return toward Freedom Square for dinner, then choose one wine or coffee stop nearby. Keep the evening in the same area. If the hilltop view matters more, replace the walk with Mtatsminda and make the return journey part of that plan.

A performance evening: reserve opera or ballet first, walk a short stretch of Rustaveli and eat near the theatre before curtain time. For Gabriadze, base the evening around Shavteli Street and the old town instead. Choose one of these neighbourhood plans and fit the meal to its location and ticket time.

A music-led night: choose a specific live show or club event, have dinner near your stay or in one central area, then travel to the venue. A Chughureti meal can precede a Left Bank show, while Bassiani and KHIDI each need their own destination and entrance checked. Leave the rest of the night open and keep the following morning flexible.

Give the return journey its own plan.

Use Tbilisi Transport Company's journey planner for the time you expect to leave. For a late club exit, plan a taxi or ride-hailing pickup rather than assuming public transport will be operating. Save your accommodation address, keep phone charge for the return and agree a meeting point if friends leave separately. A central dinner and a riverside club are separate journeys, even when both are described as a night in Tbilisi.

Things to make time for.

Gabriadze offers a booked performance; Sololaki suits a walk beginning before dusk, while Mtatsminda offers an evening view when park access and return transport work for your date. The club and bar planning sections above cover different ways to continue the evening. These are independent visits; times exclude travel between places.
